Sequim Service Fest in Progress

The City of Sequim, Habitat for Humanity of Clallam County, and First Federal have partnered together to host the first of its kind Sequim Service Fest June 4 – 15, 2018.

The event brings Habitat for Humanity RV “Care-A-Vanners,” to Sequim for the two week period to work on public and private projects as part of the Habitat Neighborhood Revitalization program. The Care-A-Vanners are joined by City staff and community volunteers to complete the projects.

Sequim Service Fest officially began on Monday, June 4 with an inspirational presentation by internationally recognized community engagement expert and author of “For the Love of Cities,” Peter Kageyama.

Tuesday, June 5 was designated Sequim Day of Color and residents were encouraged to come by the Sequim Civic Center to pick up a quart of paint in the City logo colors and decorate something on their homes to brighten their neighborhood. Dozens of residents participated. Paint will continue to be available for pick-up at the Guy Cole Convention Center at Carrie Blake Park on weekday mornings during the event, while supplies last. As a part of Sequim Day of Color, the arbor and benches at First Security Bank, on the corner of Sequim Avenue and Washington Street were painted.

Habitat Care-A-Vanners worked on clearing debris from a private property on West Hammond Street and will be prepping and painting the property in the coming days. Additionally dugout roofing and painting took place at Dr. Standard Park.

A special concert by Joy in Mudville will be held tonight from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.at the James Center for the Performing Arts at Carrie Blake Park, 500 N. Blake Avenue.

Rally in the Alley will be held on Wednesday, June 6 beginning at 9:00 a.m. Dumpster will be located at the City Shop, 169 W. Hemlock St., Carrie Blake Park, and Blue Sky Realty. The dumpsters are for residents to discard unwanted items and will be available until full.

Also on Wednesday, June 6 Habitat Care-A-Vanners will continue work on the West Hammond residence and begin work on two properties on Spruce Street. City staff and community volunteers will continue work on painting and roofing the dugouts at Dr. Standard Park.

Community members who want to volunteer can sign in at the Guy Cole Event Center at Carrie Blake Park each weekday morning through June 15.
