Sequim Service Fest Completes First Week

Sequim Service Fest volunteers completed the first week of public and private projects in the neighborhood revitalization program. The event will continue through June 15, 2018.

Sequim Day of Color occurred on Tuesday, June 5. More than 50 members of the community picked up quarts of paint in the City of Sequim logo colors to decorate their homes. The arbor and benches at 1st Security Bank on the corner of Sequim Avenue and Washington Street were painted, and painting continued on the City building on the corner of Sequim Avenue and Spruce Street. Paint can be picked up at the Guy Cole Center weekday mornings though June 15 while supplies last.

Habitat for Humanity Care-A-Vanners removed unwanted debris, built a fence and prepared and painted a private property on West Hammond Strett. Volunteers prepared and primed a house for paint on West Spruce and a structure on Spruce Street was removed. Dugouts and benches at Dr. Standard Park were painted and the dugouts were reroofed. A new picnic shelter was constructed at Margaret Kirner Park and construction of information kiosks in each of the City’s seven neighborhoods began.

Another successful Rally in the Alley was held on Wednesday, June 6 with six dumpsters at three locations filled with unwanted items and debris by 10:00 a.m.

Work will continue the week of June 11 on the private resident projects and on an additional home on East Prairie Street. Volunteers will complete construction of the neighborhood kiosks and work on reroofing the gazebo and building a shed at Carrie Blake Park.

Community members who want to volunteer can sign in at the Guy Cole Event Center at Carrie Blake Park each weekday morning through June 15.
