Sequim Man Arrested for Starting Fire

On Monday, July 30th, 2018, at 06:19 a.m., Clallam County Fire District 3 responded to the area of the Olympic Discovery Trail just west of Whitefeather Rd. to a report of fire. On arrival the Fire Department observed a white male in a black tank top and shorts sleeping next to a fire; the male fled the scene and the fire was extinguished. The Fire Department requested Law Enforcement and the Sequim Police Department responded. Police were unable to locate the suspect at this time.

On this same date, the Mariner’s Outlook Home Owners Association (HOA) called the Police Department due to their close proximity to the location of the fire. The HOA was informed about the incident and they were provided with a suspect description and request that if anyone was seen matching the description to please call the Police

At approximately 9:04 a.m., a suspicious male was reported to be walking in a southbound direction on W. Sequim Bay Rd. The reporting party stated that the male wore a black tank top, had short blonde hair, and was possibly related to the fire on Whitefeather where a sign pole was burned along the Discovery Trail.

The subject was located and arrested for multiple charges including obstructing a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest, malicious mischief, and arson. Fire Department personnel positively identified the subject in custody as the person that ran from the fire.

“This is a great example of the community and first responders working together to make our community a safer place,” said Sequim Police Sergeant John Southard.
