Waste & Recycling Right
recycling & Garbage Services
Recycling markets change rapidly and the rules may be different depending where you live. In the City our focus is "Do the Core Four": Metals, Plastics (limited), Mixed Paper, and Corrugated Cardboard. Please click on our flyer to the right for details.
Glass and plastic bags may be recycled if you self-haul to a drop box location - but they should not go into your recycling bin! For more resources on how to #RecycleRight and prevent waste, check out the City’s flyer and these webpages:
- Recycling & Waste Prevention | Clallam County, WA (clallamcountywa.gov)
- plasticfilmrecycling.org (for where to take plastic bags)
Collection services within the City are provided through a contract between City of Sequim and Murrey’s Olympic Disposal (a.k.a. Waste Connections). For information on getting curbside garbage or recycling bins and the collection schedule, please call 360-452-7278 or email email@example.com or visit their website.
Collection of garbage is required for all properties in Sequim city limits. The cost of recycling is included for residences; "Core Four" recyclables go into a separate bin provided upon request (except glass, see below for glass recycling drop off locations in Sequim). Commercial properties must pay separately for recycling service and request a bin. Mixed recycling is baled and then hauled by Waste Connections to Pioneer Recycle Center.
Organics (Food & YARD WASTE)
Food waste can be composted into a soil amendment right at home, an impactful way to reduce your waste footprint. Visit WSU Extension to learn more about home composting.
Yard waste can be collected curbside by the City’s solid waste hauler by subscription. Order by calling 360-452-7278.
PAINTCARE RECYCLING PROGRAM
HAZARDOUS WASTE DISPOSAL
The Moderate Risk Waste Facility (MRWF), located at 3501 W. 18th Street in Port Angeles, is open on a limited schedule for all Clallam County residents to dispose of household hazardous waste for free (pesticides, herbicides, chemicals, etc.).
The City will accept used car batteries and waste motor oil at no charge at the City Shop, 169 W. Hemlock St., Mon-Fri, 8 am to 3:30 pm. The City cannot accept gasoline or antifreeze. The MRWF or the Blue Mountain Transfer Station will take antifreeze and oil for proper disposal.
"E-Cycle Washington" oversees locations accepting electronic waste. As of 2021, Goodwill is the only e-waste recycling site in Sequim, depending on the type of device. Please refer to these websites for the latest information: Clallam County E-Waste, and E-Cycle Washington.
OPT OUT or RECYCLe PHONE BOOKS
Several companies distribute phone books to homes and businesses in Sequim. Visit https://www.yellowpagesoptout.com to learn about a consumer opt-out program to opt out of all or a selection of directories delivered within the zip code. The site will require registration including your address, telephone number and email.
You may recycle unwanted phone books with "mixed paper."
