The City of Sequim City Council voted Monday, September 14 to open the application period for Council Position No. 6, a vacant seat on the City Council. To be considered applications are due to the City Clerk no later than 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 30, 2020. The applicants will be interviewed by the City Council during a public meeting on Monday, October 12, with a potential appointment and swearing in of the new Councilmember during this meeting. The meeting will be held virtually online, and audio will be streamed on the City’s website. Members of the public will also be able to listen to the meeting by telephone.
While the term of office for Councilmembers is four years, the person appointed will serve until the election results of the November 2021 General Election are certified. Voters will decide who will fill the remainder of the unexpired term at the November 2021 General Election. The salary for the position is $250 per month. Applicants must be registered voters of the City of Sequim at the time of application, have a one-year continuous period of residence in the City of Sequim preceding appointment, and hold no other public office or employment under the city government except as permitted by 42.23 RCW.
The City Council position is vacant due to the resignation of Councilmember Troy Tenneson announced on August 21, 2020. By Washington State Law, the City Council is required to fill a vacant position within 90 days of the vacancy.

The Sequim City Council is the legislative authority of the City of Sequim. The City operates under a Council-Manager form of government, which means the Council adopts policy and appoints a City Manager to implement policy. The seven-member City Council is primarily responsible for adopting laws, determining the services to be provided and funding levels for those services through adoption of an annual budget. City Council positions are non-partisan.
