A Welcome Reception will be held on Friday, September 19, 2014 at 3:15 p.m. at the Sequim Transit Center, 190 West Cedar Street, to greet a delegation of ten students and three chaperones from the City of Sequim’s Sister City, Shiso, Japan.
At the reception, the guests will meet City Officials, Sister City Association Members, and their host families. The Sequim host families are the homes of the Sequim high school students who along with chaperones, Eric Lewis, Mayor Candace Pratt, and Council Member and former Mayor Laura Dubois, will travel to Shiso City, Japan October 20 - 29, 2014.
The guests from Shiso City will be in Sequim through Tuesday, September 23, 2014. Their itinerary will include visiting local Sequim schools and enjoying Sequim attractions.
The cities of Yamasaki, Hyogo Prefecture in Japan and Sequim, Washington signed a Memorandum of Understanding on October 31, 1992. In 2004, Yamasaki merged with four other cities to form the present day city of Shiso. The Sister City Association was formed to:
• Promote friendship and mutual understanding between our communities
• Coordinate student educational exchanges
• Support the Friendship Garden located at the entrance to Carrie Blake Park.
