The City of Sequim Public Works Department will resume the grease trap inspection program in 2015. The inspections may occur at any business or organization within the city limits that have a commercial grade kitchen. This will include, but may not be limited to, restaurants, schools, churches, and club facilities.
The City will determine the need for inspections based on the amount of grease that is found in the sewer lines. The Public Works Department will do its best to give establishments a two day notice prior to the inspection and asks that paperwork or pumping orders be available for review. Inspections will be performed by a Sequim Public Works staff member during regular business hours.
Animal and vegetable based fats, oils, and grease (FOG) from commercial facilities can be overlooked in grease traps and end up in the City sewer system. FOG can clog wastewater collection and treatment systems causing sewage spills, manhole overflows, and sewage system backups in homes and businesses.
The Sequim Public Works Department appreciates the cooperation of the local community in helping to ensure Sequim’s sanitary sewer and water reclamation facility systems are in prime working condition.
The maintenance of a FOG trap or interceptor system is the responsibility of the business or organization running the facility. Please keep FOG traps or interceptors cleaned, well maintained and document scheduled maintenance. When using any type of cleaning service make sure that proper documentation is received from the service provider.
Please contact the Sequim Public Works Department at (360) 683-4908 with any questions.
