SEQUIM – Sequim City Manager Steve Burkett has appointed Sue Hagener to the position of Administrative Services Director effective June 1, 2015. Hagener is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and served as the City of Sequim Accounting Manager from 2010 to 2014. She was appointed Deputy Administrative Services Director in 2014. Prior to working for the City, she spent close to two decades in accounting management positions in the private sector. Hagener replaces Elray Konkel who will retire from the City in May.
“One of my most important responsibilities as City Manager is to maintain the financial health and stability of City finances. We are very fortunate to have someone inside the organization that has developed their skills to be prepared to move into this important leadership role,” said City Manager Steve Burkett. “Sue’s history with the City and her skills in finance and accounting will bring stability and continuity to the Administrative Services Department and the City.”
The Administrative Services Director is responsible for the operations of the City Finance and Information Technology Departments. The department priorities include developing long-range financial plans and implementing the financial controls that provide stability and sustainability to the City in addition to providing internal services to the City’s operating departments.
“It has been a truly rewarding experience to apply my skills at the City of Sequim and for the citizens of Sequim the past four and a half years,” said Hagener. “I’ve been fortunate to have Elray Konkel as a mentor for the past two years and for his and the Finance Department’s unwavering support. I look forward to serving as a member of the City’s Leadership Team and continuing the efforts to guide the Administrative Services Department and the organization to an efficient, positive, and fiscally sound future.”
