[ARCHIVED] Sequim Police Arrest Man for Sexual Exploitation of a Minor

SEQUIM-- On the evening of January 6th 2016 the Sequim Police Department arrested a 34 year old Sequim man for the sexual exploitation of a minor, a six year old boy. The incident occurred in a home they lived in together in the 800 block of East Alder Street.

The incident came to light when the roommate of the victim child’s father saw the child in the bedroom of another roommate under suspicious circumstances. The witness immediately informed the father who was at work, and soon thereafter notified the police. Within hours, detectives had obtained a warrant for the suspect’s arrest and had him in custody.

The arrested suspect, Charles David Gahimer is a registered sex offender, who was lawfully reporting his address as that residence. He was charged on January 7th with one count of sexual exploitation of a minor and is currently held in the Clallam County Jail on a $130,000 bail.

A search warrant served on the suspect’s room yielded over a dozen pieces of digital evidence which will be forensically examined in the coming weeks. As the investigation continues, additional charges are expected to be filed.

At this time, the Sequim Police Department is not aware of any other local children who have been victimized by this suspect. We also believe that the people who lived in the same home as the suspect, specifically the witness and the victim’s father, did not know Charles Gahimer was a convicted sex offender.

The Police Department commends the quick, responsible and mature response by the household members to this unfortunate incident.
