[ARCHIVED] Two Black Cottonwood Trees to be Removed at Carrie Blake Community Park

SEQUIM—The City of Sequim will be removing two diseased black cottonwood trees at Carrie Blake Community Park in February.  The two trees are on the north side of the dog park.  The trees have grown together at the base creating a 6 to 7 foot wide trunk.  The larger tree has significant visible rot at the base.

Certified Arborist Gordon Clark has reviewed the trees, and while he feels they are not an extreme hazard, he recommends that they be removed due to their close proximity to areas where people and pets gather.  According to his report, black cottonwood trees (Populus trichocarpa) are a relatively short lived species.

Please contact the Sequim Public Works Department at (360) 683-4908 with questions.
