[ARCHIVED] Sequim Police Locate Missing Man through Project Lifesaver

SEQUIM--On February 27, 2017, at 2:53 p.m., Sequim Police were notified by the PENCOM dispatch center about a 77 year old Alzheimer’s patient who had walked away from his home in Sequim. The man, last seen around 12:30 p.m., had been previously enrolled in the Sequim Police Project Lifesaver Program due to his family’s concerns about wandering behavior and he was wearing the watch sized transmitter bracelet fitted to him at the time of his entry into the program.

By 3:03 p.m., members of the Sequim Police were actively searching the area around his house, using equipment designed to receive the specific radio frequency broadcast by the PLS client’s wrist transmitter.  The search ended at 3:12 p.m., when officers located the man inside The Lodge, a few blocks from his home. The officers credited the Project Lifesaver equipment for the safe and rapid recovery of the missing man.

Project Lifesaver Program enrollment has a one-time, low-cost fee, and is available by the Sequim Police Department through the generous funding from the Ray and Donna Guerin Family Foundation. Please contact the Sequim Police Department at 360-683-7227 or visit the City’s website at www.sequimwa.gov for more information.
