[ARCHIVED] The City of Sequim Receives $50,000 State CERB Grant

The City of Sequim has received a $50,000 grant from the State of Washington Department of Commerce Community Economic Revitalization Board (CERB) for the development of a “subarea plan” for the Bell Creek Economic Opportunity Area (EOA), formerly known as the Burrowes property. The plan will include site analysis, market analysis, and direction for future development within the EOA. The grant is matched by $5000 from the City of Sequim and $12,000 from the property owner Bill Holt

The property was designated as an EOA in the City’s 2015-2035 Comprehensive Plan. EOAs are described as “areas that are comprised of large, underdeveloped lands with good access to US 101 and other infrastructure as venues to expand and diversify the city’s economic base and increase living-wage employment opportunities.”

The property contains wetlands on its southern edge, is bisected by Bell Creek, and is populated with a native Garry Oak grove. The protection of these sensitive areas along with the property’s strategic location provided motivation for the study to ensure successful development of the site.

The City and landowner partner issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) seeking a planning consultant for the project in anticipation of the grant and have selected ED Hovee & Co. teaming with BergerABAM, both working from Vancouver, Washington, to conduct the study.

The Sequim grant, awarded by CERB on May 18, 2017, was one of ten grants and low interest loans awarded within nine counties throughout the state.
