Posted on: June 23, 2017[ARCHIVED] An Asian Flair Art Exhibit and Keying Around to Open at the Sequim Civic Center
Please join the City Arts Advisory Commission (CAAC) for the opening of “An Asian Flair” art exhibit and artist reception on Friday, July 7, 2017 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Sequim Civic Center, 152 W. Cedar Street.
The CAAC reviewed 32 pieces of work from 16 artists before selecting 21 pieces to be included in the show. The exhibit includes works in acrylic on canvas, watercolor on rice paper, collage, Asian brush, Suminagashi, woodcut, pen & ink, porcelain, and photography. The artists represented are Ryoko Toyama, Danielle Tanner, Roxanne Grinstad, Patty Lampley, Monica Gutieriez-Quarto, Melanie Salazar, Kaitlyn Walter, Linda Chapman, Pete Tjemsland, Erica McClain, Valerie Henschel. The exhibit will be on display until September 30, 2017.
Art Talks on the Art Walk: The opening event will include demonstrations from three local presenters:
5:00 p.m. – Janie Redifer will present ideas of how to bring the art of Ikebana, Japanese flower arranging, into the home. Redifer lived in Japan for six years and studied for two years at the Sogetsu School of Ikebana in Tokyo. She earned the Sogetsu Teacher’s Diploma Fourth Grade, which allows her to teach Ikebana.
5:45 p.m. –Roxanne Grinstad, M.A. Ed., will demonstrate the art of Japanese Brush style painting. Grinstad was awarded the Certificate of Merit in Asian Brush teaching and painting after completing the Ning Yehs Teaching Techniques course at Coastline College in California.
6:30 p.m. – Emily Hu, is the owner of Roji Home and Garden. She will present simple and elegant ways to add “Asian Flair” to your home or garden.
“Keying Around” Summer Music Program
July 7 is also the kick-off of the summer music program “Keying Around.” Four donated pianos have been painted by local artists and will be place in various locations in downtown Sequim throughout the month of July.
Professional musicians will be scheduled throughout the month, but the pianos are available for anyone to play. The pianos will be auctioned at a special event on Friday, August 4, 2017, to raise money for the continuation of the program.
