[ARCHIVED] PUD Improvements in Sequim - Power Outages, Modified Traffic Patterns

Clallam County PUD is set to begin working on a two to three week power project at E. Fir Street and N. Sequim Avenue beginning August 9. A 3-4 hour power outage is expected in the middle of the night at the beginning of the project and a shorter outage will occur at the end of the project. All affected customers will be notified in advance of the outages.

The project includes exposing existing buried power lines under the street and extending them to a new switch cabinet a short distance east on E. Fir Street. Both vehicle and pedestrian traffic will be altered during the project.

This work is part of a larger project to remove the old Sequim Substation from 410 E. Washington Street. New switches and circuit re-connections will allow the PUD to feed all of the downtown electrical loads from other sources.

This update removes old equipment from Downtown and saves the PUD approximately $1.5 million in upgrades to the old Sequim substation that would have been needed.

This work lays the foundation for new buried power lines to replace the existing overhead lines in conjunction with the City’s W. Fir Street Rehabilitation project between N. Sequim Avenue and N Fir Street. The W. Fir Street project is tentatively scheduled to begin construction in 2018.
