Sequim City Council member Brandon Janisse has received a Certificate of Municipal Leadership (CML) from the Association of Washington Cities (AWC).

AWC’s Certificate of Municipal Leadership program recognizes city and town elected officials for accomplishing training in four core areas:

•    Roles, responsibilities and legal requirements

•    Public sector resource management

•    Community planning and development

•    Effective local leadership

The CML program is designed to enhance the ability of elected municipal officials by providing knowledge and skills to effectively operate within the law, plan for the future, secure and manage funds, and foster community and staff relationships. To earn this certificate, the official attends a variety of AWC sponsored municipal workshops. The courses help mayors and councilmembers learn the essentials of municipal service and improve their ability to work with council colleagues, city staff, and citizens.

Janisse was elected to the City Council and has served since January 2018.  He currently serves on the City’s Finance Committee, as a liaison to the Park, Arbor, and Recreation Board, and as an alternate to the Clallam Transit System Board.

AWC serves its members through advocacy, education, and services. Founded in 1933, AWC is a private, non-profit, non-partisan corporation that represents Washington’s cities and towns before the state legislature, the state executive branch, and with regulatory agencies. AWC also provides training, data and publications, and programs such as the AWC Employee Benefit Trust, AWC Risk Management Service Agency, AWC Workers’ Comp Retro, AWC Drug and Alcohol Consortium, and AWC GIS Consortium.
