Current Sales Tax Rate
The current sales tax rate for the City of Sequim is 8.9%.
2013 Increase in Tax Rate
In August 2012, Sequim Citizens voted to establish a Public Safety Tax of .1%. This increase in the overall sales tax rate became effective on January 1, 2013. At the time, the City of Sequim did not have a police station or an adequate emergency operations center. The money raised with this tax is paying off debt on our police facility.
2010 Increase in Tax Rate
An increase of 0.2% was put into effect on April 1, 2010, for the establishment of a Transportation Benefit District (TBD). The Sequim TBD was established as a quasimunicipal corporation, an independent taxing district, on July 14, 2008. The TBD was created for the sole purpose of acquiring, constructing, improving, providing, and funding transportation improvements within the district. The boundaries of the TBD are identical with the City of Sequim limits. Voters approved a ballot measure in November 2009 to authorize a sale and use tax of two-tenth’s of one percent (0.2%) to be collected within the TBD, effective April 1, 2010.
