CITY COUNCIL PROCLAMATIONS AND RECOGNITION
Upon request of any person or organization, the City Council may issue proclamations or certificates of appreciation or recognition in the following circumstances:
- When the subject is an event, person, organization, or cause with local implications for Sequim
- When the request for issuance is timely
- When the subject has potential relevance to a majority of Sequim’s residents
- When the subject forwards a positive message
Council proclamations or recognition documents can be read at a City Council meeting or simply formally approved and returned to the requester.
Content
Proclamations and recognitions issued by the Sequim City Council must reflect inclusiveness, not exclusiveness, recognize that the strength of our democracy is our diversity, and refrain from taking sides in matters of political, ideological, or religious controversy.
Proclamations must have a citywide significance and demonstrate relevancy to Sequim, and not be mere expressions of individual conviction.
Request PROCESS
To request Council consideration of a proposed proclamation, certificate of appreciation, or recognition, submit a completed Request to Issue Form (PDF) to clerk@sequimwa.gov at least three weeks in advance of the Council meeting at which the presentation is desired.
PRESENTING AT CITY COUNCIL MEETINGS
Requests will be reviewed upon receipt by City staff and the Mayor. If included as part of the request, and if time on the agenda allows, the Mayor will read the document at the meeting and present it to the requester or other designated recipient, who may make a brief comment upon acceptance.
Questions may be directed to the City Clerk at clerk@sequimwa.gov or at 360-681-3428.
